Lead From Center
By default the Lead from Center option allows you to utilize the center most positions of the created toolpath chains. In the past, creating leads that started/ended in the center of the chain could be a little more challenging than you would initially think. In fact, customers requesting the ability to do this easily is what led to these new lead types. No need to measure areas and calculate leads as these leads work on any shape to find the center-most point created by the chains.
When we came out with our 4 Axis Advanced Rough and 4 Axis Advanced Finish operations, it helped a lot in the machining of those shapes, but the toolpath wasn’t specialized for those shapes and there were still some drawbacks. Everything from the step downs to the limits is designed for cylindrical shapes. That meant conical floors would have steps and air cutting on the smaller end was impossible to remove with radial limits. These issues are now a thing of the past with the new Conical Machining option. Simply select the check box on the Patterns page, set the Cone Angle and now the entire toolpath is designed for that exact shape.
New Deburring Toolpath
While the Deburring operation has always offered ways to specify the area to focus on by allowing selection of specific edges, check surfaces to avoid, and limiting the area by height, deburring only specific areas meant a lot of geometry selections and even adjustment of the operation settings. Now, hitting exactly what needs to be hit has never been easier. Simply select a solid, or solids from the graphics area and only the area inside of these solids will have the Deburring toolpath applied.
New CAM Tree Enhancements
The Machining order dialog has been replaced by a complete Operation Tree which enhances the workflow in the software in many ways that were never possible. Once you’ve created your jobs in the CAM Tree, open the Tool Tree to see all your jobs, the tools in their tool crib, and which operations are assigned to each tool. For the first time ever, Mill and Lathe jobs also support MDI, or manual data input, which allows you to manually define machine movement as needed for your machining operations.
Surface Based Toolpaths
Another tilting option is added to the arsenal of the Surface toolpath types with the new Tilted with fixed angle to surface normal option. The proper tool tilt is important in multi-axis machining, and while we have many options to choose from, including staying fixed to the surface normal, in the past you have not be able to adjust the tilt based on the surface normal. In this version though, you can simply select the option, choose your reference surface and set your angles.
5 Axis Milling
The Undercut option in the Options page of the Advanced Z Level Finish now allows you to do undercutting when the operation is set to 5 Axis in the Tool Axis Control page. While the undercutting option has been a huge help when using undercutting tools in a 3 Axis operation, the undercut option has so far been unavailable when setting the operation to 5 Axis. Now, when set to 5 Axis, you can use Undercut with spherical tools by simply selecting one of the Checks on the Gouge Check page, and setting the Strategy to Tilt tool. You can even set an Extend undercut area value to have full control over exactly how much is machined.

The Multiblade operation has four patterns specifically to handle a particular aspect of the part. Roughing, Blade finishing, Hub finishing, and Fillet finishing, creating an optimum toolpath with very little input from the user.
Auto 3+2 Roughing
5 Axis index roughing is now added to 3 Axis Advanced Roughing, Index, and rough automatically using auto 3 + 2. Spend less time creating index systems and saving operation stock, and more time cutting chips.
Now, you can easily set your NC File Extension to ‘.apt’ in the Current Settings dialog to output in this format, typically used by Third-party post-processing software.
CAM Tree Enhancements
New workflow improves productivity, providing a better user experience for optimizing CNC machining cycles and toolpath creation. Post and run faster with V34s new and improved CAM Tree navigation and workflow. Double click edit, auto blank, extended CAM Tree, posting fonts, backplot visibility, single operation posting, CAM Tree notes with system settings to default user preference.
Detect Open Edges
2 Axis “open pocketing” selection is made easier with automatic open edge detection found in V34. Reducing or eliminating geometry creation previously needed to drive advanced pocketing patterns used for open pocketing.
New edge breaking toolpath for in setup deburring. Collision-free toolpath supporting undercut edge breaking is a few clicks away. Select your model and tool, V34 does the rest. Available for 3, 4, and 5 Axis deburring.
New Toolpath provides 4 and 5 axis programmers additional options for roughing. Achieve higher material removal rates while eliminating stringy bird nest chips with the New Turn Mill Multiaxis Toolpath.
3 - 5 Axis Toolpath Conversion
New toolpath option makes 5 Axis programming easier with automatic 5 axis conversion. Use 3 axis toolpaths to program 5 axis jobs and let V34 automatically tilt away collisions.

Find holes sizes, types and depths faster with automatic hole recognition! Using a knowledge base, users can customize conditions to optimize hole processing for their shop’s needs.
Steep Shallow Operations
Achieve up to 70% faster calculation times with better surface finishes using this combination toolpath. Best target steep and shallow areas of your part geometry with a single operation.
Barrel Mill Tool
Reduce cycle time while improving surface finish using Barrel Mill tools for 3, 4 and 5 Axis Toolpaths.The expanded surface area of a Barrell Mill cutter allows for larger step downs / step overs without sacrificing the desired cusp height. Standard, Advanced, Tangent, Lens, Double, Section and Taper Barrel Mills are supported in V33.
Corner Slow Down
Advanced federate mapping to slow cutting motion down as the tool approaches corners or sharp changes in the direction. Apply corner slowdown on internal corners, external corners or all corners and use custom settings to eliminate corner blowout or overloading your tools.
With prior versions pecking was limited to the Drill Hole operation alone. V33 now adds pecking options to additional operations: Center, Counterbore, Chamfer and Ream all support pecking.
Side Roughing Patterns
You can now choose from single direction cutting (zig) or bi direction cutting (zig zag) patterns with sorting control that results in more efficient toolpath.
Pocketing: Multiple Drill Tip Positions
We use Drill Tip Positions to define the pilot hole location for your pocketing cycles to start the tool in. Prior to versions were limited to a single position, V33 now supports multiple Drill Tip Positions (pilot hole locations) for a single pocket operation.
